In the 1980s, underground ball culture in New York City was an opportunity for marginalised minorities to develop a sub-culture of self-expression and gender-nonconformity. Balls became a non-judgemental space to construct your sense of self and create your own reality, free from the prejudice and constraints of mainstream society. With minimal differentiation for styling both men and women, the collection echoes the message of ball culture: who you are is up to you.
